7 Questions to Ask Before Booking Any Lagos Vendor

Updated 12 July 2026 · ~7 min read · By the FÊTEEKO concierge team

Most event disappointments in Lagos aren't bad luck — they're a booking made on a pretty Instagram page and a promise. These are the seven questions we ask every vendor before we let them near a client's event. Ask them yourself, and you'll spot the professionals fast.

1. "Can I see recent work and speak to a recent client?"

What you're really testing: is the portfolio real and current?

Anyone can post beautiful photos. A professional can show you recent events — last month, not three years ago — and will happily connect you with a client who'll vouch for them. Hesitation here is the loudest red flag there is.

2. "What exactly is included in this price?"

What you're really testing: will the quote hold?

The gap between "₦2m" and "₦2m plus staff, plus logistics, plus setup" is where budgets break. Ask for the all-in figure and get the inclusions in writing. A pro quotes clearly; an amateur keeps it vague so the number can climb later.

3. "What's your deposit and payment schedule?"

What you're really testing: is this a legitimate business?

Reputable Lagos vendors take a 30–50% deposit to hold the date, with the balance before or on the day. Be very cautious of anyone demanding 100% upfront before doing any work — that's the single most common setup for a disappearance.

4. "Have you handled an event my size before?"

What you're really testing: capacity, not just talent.

A caterer flawless at 80 guests can fall apart at 400. A decorator who does intimate setups may not have the crew for a 500-seat hall. Ask for a specific comparable event they've delivered at your scale.

5. "What happens if something goes wrong on the day?"

What you're really testing: do they have a plan B?

Power cuts, a late delivery, a staff no-show — Lagos throws these. A professional has backups: a spare generator, a second driver, extra hands on call. "That won't happen" is not an answer; a real contingency plan is.

6. "Is our agreement in writing?"

What you're really testing: accountability.

Date, deliverables, price, inclusions, and timing — on paper or in a clear message thread, agreed by both sides. A written agreement isn't distrust; it's how serious people protect a serious day. Anyone who resists putting basics in writing is telling you something.

7. "Who is my point of contact on the day?"

What you're really testing: will someone actually answer?

You don't want to be calling five vendors from behind the scenes while your event runs. Know exactly who's accountable and reachable on the day — one name, one number.

The shortcut: every vendor FÊTEEKO works with has already passed these seven checks — and more — before we'll put them in front of you. That's what "vetted" actually means here.

Or let us do the vetting

Tell us about your event once. We only match you with vendors who've cleared this checklist — and we stay your single point of contact through the day.
